biographical info

"I wouldn't call it alt-country, exactly, but there are some similarities. It's not slick Nashville music, but it's not flat-out Johnny Cash either." In February 2002, Jason was selected out of 72 applicants for one of the 15 spots in the 2002 ECMA (East Coast Music Awards) showcases in Saint John, NB. He played guitar for Justin Bird's band in the opening slot of Luther Wright & the Wrongs Maritime tour in Spring of 2002, and opened for alt-country icons, the Guthries in January of 2003. This summer Jason joined Dale Murray's (the Guthries) new band on guitar, lap steel, and backing vocals. They headlined the Marquee club in Halifax and began working on Dale's new record in August. In February 2004, Jason played to a packed house opening for Matt Mays and El Torpedo at the Paramount Lounge in Moncton, NB. Jason also just finished recording his new album with Jason Ball, who has helped produce the Guthries and the Heavy Blinkers and is also the singer/songwriter behind Halifax's, 'Hopeful Monster'. the album was mixed by Brenndan McGuire (Sloan, Sam Roberts) and is set for release in April/May 2004. Jason plans to perform around the Maritimes throughout the winter and to follow that up with a summer tour of Ontario & Québec. The rest of North America will hopefully follow next fall. Jason looks forward to taking his new approach to roots/country/pop music to different audiences and finally see whether Buck Owens and the Beatles can share the same stage.
