biographical info
After receiving classical training up to the graduate school level on
flute and saxophone,
Ivy turned her attention to writing and performing rock and folk music.
As a flute player, she is self-professed to perform
musical styles from "Belfast to Bach to Rock".
Along with performing with progressive rock band Ants On A Log
(1996-1997), and indiepunk/surf rockers
The Zazazas
(2008), she was a regular performer in Edmonton's classical music scene
for almost fifteen years.
She also frequented Edmonton's farmers' markets and
open stages in recent years, first as a flute player,
often performing irish/traditional music, and later as a
singer/songwriter.
Upon moving to Vancouver she has focused on
developing her guitar & vocal skills, and often collaborates
with fellow singer/songwriter Ali Seifi. The two perform together as The Honeybeez.
Her original music is described as poignant and
speaking to the listener, with catchy melodies and lyrics.
Her songwriting compares to the earlier style of Jewel, and her delivery
of words and music is similar to Priscilla Herdman's style in The Water
Lily.
Ivy's influences range widely in style and include
progressive rock guru Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull,
jazz flautist Moe Koffman, irish flautist Chris Norman, as well as bands
and performers such as
Roxette, Evanesence, Offspring, Bad Religion, and No Doubt.
