biographical info
Inlet Sound is the musical convergence of heartfelt folk spirit and atmospheric yet catchy pop form. With captivating live sets that display both lush arrangements and memorable hooks, the future of this newly formed band seems very bright to say the least.
In August of 2010, five days before their first public performance, Michael Wexler, Steven Gore, Ian Russell, Matt Cramp and Sean Hardy assembled to form what is now Inlet Sound. Having already played together under the name since late 2009, Wexler and Hardy had been working on their unique brand of twinkling, atmospheric folk, self-producing and releasing a debut EP of 9 tracks in early 2010 and carving out a local reputation for their arresting live performances. Comfortably set in their ways, the pair were unsure of exactly what would happen when they invited newcomers into the fold, so it was with trepidation that they eventually met with their soon-to-be bandmates for their first practice together in the sweltering August heat.
Somehow, it seems, the stars had aligned. What newcomers Steven, Ian and Matt brought to the group's dynamic was everything that had been missing. Songs once minimal by necessity took on something new with the contributions of the new members, giving rise to a sound that was simultaneously lush, powerful and infectiously catchy. In the months that followed, the boys kept busy playing shows all over Southern Ontario, appearing at venues like Toronto's Mod Club and Opera House as well as the historic Cameron House for Indie Week 2010. In their short time together, they have shared the stage with Canadian favourites like Malajube, The Meligrove Band, Winter Gloves, The Paint Movement, Whale Tooth and Peter Katz. July 2011 also saw the band enter the studio to create their first EP as a five-piece; the record, titled Dream Awake and released on September 1st, strives to capture the densely layered sound for which the band has become known, and is helping to earn the group new recognition with every passing day.
Now, barely a year after coming together for the first time, the boys are as busy as they've ever been. In the past few months, they have hit festival stages at NXNE and the Sound of Music while also finding time to write new material for an upcoming LP and embark on their first ever tour. Increasingly, this newfound momentum has begun to attract more and more people to their music, and through it all the boys have worked to further refine their sound while continuing to do what they love.
