biographical info
Hot Jupiter is a rock band from Ottawa, Ontario. Benefiting from dozens of combined years of stage and recording experience, the members of Hot Jupiter have written great songs that are catchy, heavy and groove. The band is able to adapt songs to play any type of show and can be seen as a 4 piece rock band at local bars and festivals, or as an acoustic duo, trio or even one of the guys solo. In the last year, Hot Jupiter has also received radio airplay on LiVE 88.5 for the song "Double".
The band came together as a side-project to Hungry Monkey, a popular cover band that has played hundreds of gigs across Ontario and Quebec. Jean-Francois Asselin and Dave Leroux got together in early 2008 to record original material that had been floating around for years. At the end of February 2008, they submitted an album "What Matters" as part of the RPM Challenge - www.rpmchallenge.com, a website which promotes recording an album during the shortest month of the year. A few months later, Kevin Roach joined the group and the band started performing live as a trio. Kevin Fox joined the band in early 2010.
The band participated in Live 88.5's Big Money Shot in 2009 and has since played shows in Ontario and Quebec venues such as The Rainbow Bistro, Zaphod Beeblebrox, The Live Lounge and Tucson's. Hot Jupiter has shared the stage with popular acts My Favorite Tragedy, Soul Bomb and Oceans. In November of last year, the band released a 5-song EP entitled "What Matters". The EP is available on iTunes and CD’s are available off the stage at gigs and through the band's websites.
