biographical info

"Never dull... this isn't just a collection of great songs... it's a sonic journey"
Guerilla Magazine

"With ambient grooves, call-and-answer horn chatter, and hefty bass lines... Halabisky's Uprising, is keeping a guitar town on its feet."
Ottawa Magazine

Halabisky’s Uprising is all about looking forward. Blending a love of jazz, ass-shaking grooves, hip-hop, rock and electronic music, saxman DAVE HALABISKY takes the listener on a fast paced journey through the past two years of his life. It’s all about living. Enjoying the good, learning from the bad, and appreciating what you have.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Dave has been playing music and collecting instruments for 25 years. The multi-instrumentalist has honed in skills with many bands over the years, including the electro-jazz band Antizario who signed with Ropeadope Records in 2006 (DJ Logic, Jazzanova, Charlie Hunter, Antibalas and Medeski, Martin & Wood) and epic-indie rockers Sadie Hell.

The no-nonsense debut album “State of Emergency” is the first album that Dave has made outside of a band setting and also marks his first efforts in engineering and mixing. Recorded in Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver and Stockholm between 2007 and 2009, "State of Emergency" features collaborations with Moka Only, Amalia Townsend, Atherton and Sadie Hell.

Collaborators:

MOKA ONLY's career spans nearly 15 years and more than 40 albums, including contributions to recent albums by hip-hop legends Buck 65 and K-OS. Selling more than 400,000 records independently, Moka Only is a pioneer and driving force behind Canadian hip-hop. As a founding member of the multi-platinum group Swollen Members, he has won three Juno Awards and seven MuchMusic Video Awards.

AMALIA TOWNSEND was born in the Philippines, grew-up in Vancouver and is now based in Stockholm, Sweeden. She is well known for her Juno Award-nominated work with Sekoya and recent collaborations with Opolopo and has toured extensively throughout Canada, Europe and Asia. However, she is rapidly making a name for herself as a solo artist with releases on Ninja Tune, Do Right! Music, Columbia Japan, BagPak Brooklyn and more.

SADIE HELL, known for unparalleled charisma and powerful soaring vocals, has been building a buzz in Canada's underground indie scene for years. After appearing on Zunior Records' Our Power Solar Music Compilation with Gord Downie, Ron Sexsmith and more, Sadie Hell is set to unleash its debut album in the Fall 2009.

Montreal-based MC/producer ATHERTON has released several albums and EPs to critical acclaim and is the owner/operator of Vinyl Tap Records. He has toured extensively throughout Canada, the United States and Asia and has been showcased at Canadian Music Week and North By Northeast music festivals.
