Hypnotech 3:
Now drawing on influences such as German electronica, computercore and pro trance, Hypnotech 3 still pursues the four pillars of dark ambience, minimal pulse beats, deepspace melody and gossamer drapes of bent noise.
Hypnotech 3 was formed in 2000 by John Merrall and Michael Jackson Pawluk, who were both active in music for several years - not only in bands but also by publishing fanzines, promoting and booking live music, and hosting shows at local University radio station CFMU 93.3 FM intermittently over the past fifteen years. Merrall currently produces two programs at the station: “The Pop Narcotic”, featuring shoegaze and electronica; and the 3-hour ”Sonic Attack”, which has been syndicated to five stations in 4 time zones in Canada, the US and Europe.
Their first CD, "In Tune with the True Distortion", released in February 2002, was a challenging foray into deep ambient space music. Despite its difficult content, the CD became a staple of CBC Radio's "Radio On", as well as 40,000W WREK Atlanta’s overnight programming. Their second CD “Prescription Electronics”, released in February of 2004, reached #31 in the Earshot national campus charts for May, as well as #4 in RPM nationally for two months straight.
Hypnotech 3 has played live alongside Nash the Slash, Hollowphonic, Orphx, Malory, Quasimojo, Lowfish, Beef Terminal, !Bang Elektronika, Skywave, and DJ Lex Addicus from Legion of Green Men.
