biographical info
In 2002, Matthew McDaniel, Jeff Mettlewsky, and brothers Joel and Tim Rich met through mutual friends of bands in the local Vancouver music scene. Over the course of several writing sessions, the four recognized that the diversity of using instruments such as analog synthesizers, keyboards and guitars would become a focal point for the development of their songs. It was at this time that the band also made efforts to explore their own original form.
Having the comfort to explore an entirely new set of songs at their own pace, the band entered the studio to record their first full-length album in winter, 2004. Their self-titled debut is sonically rich and is supported by well-crafted melodies and arrangements by the band. The recording contains dissonant moments driven by angular guitars, and also more spacious and atmospheric songs such as “Lofty Towers”.
In support of their release, Hejira is touring western Canada in the summer of 2005, with plans for the west coast during the fall. The band seeks to continue developing its audience while maintaining roots in musical experimentation.
