Ginsberg's Inkling - Ummm
Almost
four years after the release of The
Halfpenny Marvel LP, Ginsberg’s Inkling (John Creary) returns with a
brilliant dark art-rap sophomore album, Ummm.
Entirely self produced, Ummm is
another sample heavy production, showing impressive progression in
craftsmanship. The scope is broad and unpredictable like a spontaneous pub
crawl. Dope scratching and turntablism lurks in abundance, courtesy of DJ
Braille and DJ Xaolin, respectively. Guest appearances by Planit and Piper
Davis only add to the illness.
Ummm
is about that awkward pause between thoughts and conversation. It’s about burning
libraries and the death of sunlight. It’s about finding the heart beat beneath
all great centre of things. It’s about breathing in some kind of fond bohemia.
Neferiu Records and Pretentious Music proudly presents: Ginsberg’s Inkling – Ummm.
Ginsberg's Inkling - The Halfpenny Marvel
"Hopefully Buck 65's rumoured return to hip-hop will sound just as good as Ginsberg's impressive debut." - Exclaim! - September 2006
"One of the most interesting releases I've listened to in quite some time...Ginsberg's Inkling has forged its own path of sensual lyrics and rap-ego...like an interesting day away from reality" - What's up Yukon! - Bill Polonsky
"(With) DJ Shadow/Kool Keith opus stylings and industrial overtones with reflective and political poems... not for a moment does the album tend to fall flat" - Beat Route, November 2006.
The Halfpenny Marvel is a dreamy kaleidoscope. Softly settling somewhere between spoken word and hip hop, Ginsberg's (aka John Creary) self produced debut takes us on a poetic journey through stream of conscious thoughts and clever wordplay, wandering with emotion, sliding over a vast array of topics. The palette for these musings combines a delicious blend of dusty breaks, jazz samples, eccentric melodies, movie clips, and sharp turntable scratches (courtesy of Matt ‘Braille' Cameron). The Halfpenny Marvel is an auditory road trip you won't soon forget.
