artist Gillian Hobbs

With her unique style and unforgettable voice, Gillian Hobbs is a breath of fresh air in today's music scene.

Gillian is a gifted singer/songwriter from Vancouver, BC who has been performing nearly all her life.  She has always loved to sing and entertain people.  She began her love affair with performing by entertaining family and friends at family gatherings. Quickly, she was deemed the family's entertainer, and she began taking singing and acting classes and getting involved with various school and community theatre productions. 

Gillian also discovered her interest in writing at an early age. As a child, she used to sit outside on her swing and write songs, creating different lyrics and melodies, whenever she had the chance.  She started out performing in talent shows in elementary school and soon discovered that she wanted to sing professionally.

Growing up, Gillian would listen to her father's albums from the 60's and 70's for hours. It was listening to those albums that made her realize that folk music was her calling.

Inspired by brilliant folk musicians like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Pete Seger, Joni Mitchell, Alan Doyle, and Jann Arden, Gillian's music is honest, heartfelt and inspiring.

Gillian's rich voice is a pleasure to listen to, and her catchy melodies will undoubtedly get stuck in your head.

What truly sets Gillian's music apart are her lyrics.  Her music ranges from love ballads to songs that inspire, and it expresses wisdom usually found in someone at least twice her age.  She carefully crafts her melodies and accompaniment to support the strong messages in her lyrics.  Her music touches and inspires those who hear it.  She wants her listeners to take her words to heart and encourages them to follow their dreams. 

Gillian isn't shy about drawing from her own experiences.  Her songs showcase her inner strength and give her listeners the courage to face their own challenges. She says:

“Music helps us understand what's going on in our lives in a unique way.” She adds, “It helps us understand that we are not alone, and that someone else knows what we're going through, and has felt the same way we do right now.”

It's easy to see why so many who hear her music tell her that she has helped them.  They can take what they need from the richness of her tunes and lyrics, and feel the support that the songs give.
