biographical info
An odd pairing brings about raw, sexy and well-crafted songs.
Rich Britton's the deconstructor. Adhering to no principles of theory, he’s often unaware of tangible notes and relies strictly on melodic gut instinct. Jody Glenham’s the arranger. Trained in musical doctrine from a young age, she can read and write music very well and has a strong understanding of song structure.
Their first writing attempts were expectantly chaotic, yet strangely complimentary, covering two ends of a very different spectrum. And out of this complimentary chaos - and over a six-month period - they saw their music move closer and closer towards a cohesive sound.
With the luxury of only three in-person practices (Rich lives in Toronto, Jody lives in Vancouver) they went into the studio and in eight hours recorded “The Hive Sessions” EP.
Recorded in Burnaby, B.C. at the Hive by Jesse Gander, the EP plays off the idea of distance vs. friendship. In “The Hive Sessions,” Frances May shed themselves of musical boundaries and pare down their ideas to their simplest, rawest and most honest expressions.
