biographical info
For the Mathematics is a five-piece rock band from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada whose music fuses dark Latin rhythms with intricate guitar work and an aggressive indie edge.
The band’s début seven-song EP, The New Science, has garnered international attention and praise. Since the album’s independent release less than a year ago, For the Mathematics has played over 80 show dates across Canada and the US. Stretching just under 1500 miles from Detroit, MI to Sydney, NS, the band’s grueling itinerary has turned a promising group into a honed touring machine.
On the strength of the band’s work, FTM was selected for showcase slots for Canadian Music Week (Toronto, ON), the Motor City Music Conference (Detroit, MI), North By North-East (Toronto, ON), and the S.C.E.N.E Music Festival (St. Catharines, ON).
Without the assistance of a record label, distribution, or paid advertising, FTM has sold over 1100 units of TNS to date. Copies of TNS have been sold across North America, Mexico and overseas: in Finland, Norway, Germany, the UK, New Zealand and Australia.
In February 2005, The New Science charted at #8 in Canada on the Earshot Campus and Community radio "Loud" list, featured in Exclaim! Magazine. In its format at college radio stations, TNS has charted at #1 in Ottawa, ON (CHUO), #1 in Hamilton, ON (CFMU), #4 in St. Catharines, ON (CFBU), and #7 in Montreal, QC (CJLO).
