biographical info
Fjord Rowboat formed in the autumn of 2004, and began healing the world with reverb in December of that year. Making their debut at Toronto’s legendary El Mocambo, the band comprises Justin Grant and Matt Collum on guitar, Craig Gloster on vocals and keyboard, and brothers Kevin and Ian McKay on drums and bass, respectively.
During the ensuing years Fjord Rowboat has built a reputation for powerful live performances, creating a swirling and dynamic wash of sound overlaid with soaring guitar and vocal melodies. Highlights from their live history include appearances at CMW 2006, NXNE 2006, the No Format Shoegaze cover night, and the Drake Best of 2006 Festival. They have recently supported Handsome Furs, Red Sparrowes, and The Russian Futurists.
Fjord Rowboat began writing and recording the songs that make up Saved the Compliments for Morning in the autumn of 2005. The initial sessions took place in the band’s own studio, and final recordings were recorded at House of Miracles under the direction of Andy Magoffin. Mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel in the fall of 2006, the ten songs collected on the album represent a sampling of the fine material this band has composed since its inception.
