When Ernie Dufour volunteers at Lighthouse Christian Ministries, the reality of poverty in Orillia becomes painfully obvious.
“I’ve seen families and children come in. It’s brutal,” he said. “It’s not just adults.”
For that reason, and because of his own experience with homelessness, Dufour came up with the idea to organize a concert to benefit the less fortunate in the area.
The End Homelessness benefit concert will be held at Tux II, 2 Front St. N., this Friday.
All ticket sales will go to The Sharing Place food bank and Lighthouse Christian Ministries, which runs a soup kitchen, among other services.
“They need support to bring awareness to the issue, not only in Orillia, but across the country,” Dufour said.
The 35-year-old will be one of five acts on the bill. The others, presented by Gasoline Rainbow Productions, will be Steve Henry, USP, Desert Rush and The Doug Trucker Band.
