artist Equatorial

equatorial is a diverse electronica project. We make everything from space-aged ambient/downtempo, experimental soundscapes, hip hop and R&B loops and hooks, and a variety of other types of electrically generated sound. Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, land of the 10 month winter, equatorial's music is often rooted in hand-played, non-programmed electronic rhythms, and the powerful effects of subtle white noises and aural shapes. fans of brian eno, aphex twin, and downtempo music in general should get a kick out of the earlier works, while more recently equatorial has expanded full-on into the sounds of modern electro-pop, hip-hop and trip hop. on the horizon for equatorial is a further exploration of programmed beats and loops, evoking a juxtaposition against other more organic layers in the music. based out of edmonton, alberta, equatorial is usually the solo effort of steve steffler but steve is, as always, eager to collaborate, especially with vocalists, djs, producers, and rappers. all of equatorials' recordings are self-produced and recorded, like any good bedroom musician...
