biographical info
Classically trained as a vocalist and a pianist from a young age, Emily Jill West began while at university on the east coast to write songs. She shortly began performing material at events and open stages, making a name for herself in the Bay of Fundy acoustic/folk music scene. With a bird-like voice she has over the past few years developed a unique sound influenced by the likes of Gillian Welch, Leonard Cohen and Patty Griffin.
Having released her first EP 'And Human, Besides', Emily Jill spent the summer touring across Canada, joining Ontario-based Megan Lickley and Nova Scotia-based Heather Kelday for shows along the way. Musically, Emily Jill's songs are folk-driven, sparsely arranged pieces. She mixes her love of minor waltzes with slow paced, old-time country, singing about her prairie home, surreal love-scapes, and family memoirs.
