biographical info

Biography Date: Oct 20th, 2007 Ellen Carol & Colleen Costello Fun yet thought provoking Ellen Carol and Colleen Costello's performance will have you pondering your life in one minute then laughing at yourself (and them) in the next. With their desire to delve into an alternative acoustic sound while grounded in their folk rock roots you will pleasantly spun into a world of their creation. Ellen Carol was homegrown in Regina Saskatchewan however she has been addicted to taking her music on the road since 1990. Through Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Belize, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Fiji, Korea, Japan, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Thailand and Laos, Ellen has shared her songs. In turn she was given the experiences that have enhanced her lyrical and musical style. However, after 6 years in Toronto the earth child Ellen Carol has transformed into a street savvy songstress. Still, she sports her peace love rock and roll roots and this has placed many opportunities to grow on her concrete path. BC born Colleen Costello shines through the haze of all things music like a bulldozer in the fog. Her scope of experience and love of sound in all shapes and sizes makes her one of the most unique musicians you’ll have the pleasure of listening to. She plays with music like origami, refolding and reshaping styles you might recognize into little paper animals... I mean into new forms of catchy songs. With a voice that chills and thrills, singing melodies and harmonies to die for, Colleen Costello’s writing is as fresh as a carrot out of the ground. Lyrics stream inspired and the beat gets in yer blood. Together they have found a unique and gitty sound that has been pleasing audiences from Toronto to Charlottetown. But the desire to head west has been pulling at their hearts for some time now. “You have not achieved success until you are a hit at home” Ellen Carol “Ok big wide world out there! I’ve decided to peek my head out once again.” Colleen Costello

Thriving on Chaos: Dec 13th Cd Release

posted by Ellen Carol
Thriving on Chaos : Dec 13 2007 It has been said once or twice that Ellen Carol is most productive when she is juggling 5 projects at one time. So when she stumbled into the opportunity to record with Don Kerr in his new studio it is no surprise that she proceeded to create a music festival, cycle with her dog Sammy Sugar from Toronto to PEI for charity, buy a house to renovate, and help Don build the studio she was to record in. To the shock and wonder of friends and family these ideas of Ellen’s have all taken shape and enjoyed huge successes in 2007. Thus in keeping with the tradition of saving the best for last, on Thursday Dec 13th 2007, Ellen along with the talented musicians who partook in this project will wow you with the completion and performance of Slidin’. Ellen Carol was homegrown in Regina Saskatchewan however she has been addicted to taking her music on the road since 1990. Ellen has shared her songs across the globe, in turn she was given the experiences that have enhanced her lyrical and musical style. However, after 6 years in Toronto the Earth Child, Ellen Carol has transformed into a street savvy songstress. Still, she sports her peace love rock and roll roots and this has placed many opportunities to grow on her concrete path. Karma had a huge hand in the making of this cd. I offered to sing back up for Nigel Barnes, Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith) offered to mix for Nigel, Nigel and I needed a duo demo and Don recorded us and charged us a hug, I offered to help to build his new studio “The Rooster” (insulation up my nose) and he made time in his packed schedule to help me create my 3rd cd Slidin’. This past summer Ellen Carol took a break from recording and along with her dog Sammy Sugar embarked on their Eastern Canadian cycling/music tour. “6Legs 2 Hearts 1 Song: A Girl and Her Dog are making a difference.” The two, left Toronto powered by their own legs and spirit on June 30th. Ellen cycled between 30 and 130km a day with Sammy being pulled in a bike trailer. Along the way, Ellen Carol and her road crew (the lovely and talented Colleen Costello) performed songs from their new releases and shared the stage with a variety of musical talent local and afar, raising $3000 for the cause. Ellen returned to Toronto refreshed and inspired, completed her cd and is ready now to share it with the world.
