Elise Hall-Meyer is a singer-songwriter from Calgary AB. Combining the soulful, introspective voice of blues with the poetic narrative of folk; Elise creates an exciting and eclectic collection of candid, multi-layered, catchy tunes. Backed by a talented group of musicians christened “The Peace”, Elise’s songs come to life with rich harmonies and dynamic grooves, delivered in tandem with
Elise’s unique voice, which she navigates anywhere between heart-rending vulnerability and raw sexuality, depending on the true nature of each song.
Elise was recently awarded first place in the Calgary Folkfest Songwriting Competition 2011 in the Untapped Newcomer Category for her song “Dinosaurs”, which was described by one of the judges as “a catchy tune about the rape of the oil sands”. Elise has performed live on Calgary radio stations Up 97.7 and CJSW, as well as at many venues in and around Calgary AB, including the 2011 Calgary Folkfest. In June 2011, Elise released “Dinosaurs The EP”, a five song EP produced by the grassroots Calgary label Lazyman Records.
As well, Elise has written and performed in several Calgary based bands including Freak Motif (live improvised funk/reggae/soul), Blue Bones (rock/ska/punk) and local country and bluegrass favorites James Dangerous and the CIA. Now striking out with her own music, Elise unites her diverse musical experience with her lyrical prowess to create a performance that is engaging, imaginative and very uniquely Elise.
