biographical info
Domestic Crisis Group is the duo of Genevieve Blouin (vocals) and Dane Ratliff (guitar). They have been getting great reviews for their self-produced and released debut EP, Two Tired Hearts, and they recently won a spot as a Finalist in an EMI Music competition. Their song “the Distance” is in rotation on CBC Radio, and their EP has charted on campus radio stations across Canada.
DCG’s songs take a modern view of social problems through old-school songwriting, catchy riffs, and a style that’s been dubbed “melancountry”. Blouin’s voice has been compared to Lucinda Williams and Suzanne Vega, and Ratliff’s classically influenced fingerpicking style to Chet Atkins. DCG plans to release a new EP in late 2011.
Snob's Music Blog wrote of their new EP, Two Tired Hearts: "Two Tired Hearts is a fantastic, fresh record that deserves a place on more than a few end of year top 10 lists. 9.0/10"
Ben Conoley of Canadian Musician Magazine and a member of the Polaris Music Prize Jury recently wrote:
"The duo crafts absolutely beautiful music. Blouin's vocals are clean, elegant, and inviting. Meanwhile, Ratliff's guitar work is as much a product of his Texas background as it is lazy '90's acoustic college rock. They'll convince you to lean back and relax just a moment before shaking you awake with how greatly they pull everything together."
