In a small town, known for its folk music festivals and rock bands, hip hop isn’t a genre frequently heard of - but if mentioned, Dean O Mac's name will surely arise!
Dean MacDonald, aka “Dean O Mac”, is a 21-year-old artist and producer, born and raised in Grey County, Ontario, Canada.
Starting out with nothing more than a passion for writing and a love of music, at the age of 17, Dean began acquiring knowledge of digital production.
He has since established his own in-house studio, which he currently uses to create and record his own talents; as well as to share with and lease out to fellow artists.
After dedicating over a year to writing and producing, Dean compiled his first album entitled “Mastermind” which was released on iTunes January 14, 2009.
Following the warm welcome received by this debut, Dean continues to move forward with his musical career. He wishes to see what can be accomplished while staying close to his roots, opting to promote himself merely through means of the internet and word-of-mouth.
“Being a father of three, I can’t just pick up and go to the city to pursue my dreams. For me, music is a release, a hobby, and most of all, fun. I like to keep it that way, but if I happen to make a few bucks along the road, so be it.”
On July 22, 2010, Dean received his first radio airplay on 560-CFOS – “The Hundred Mile Music Show”; pioneering the introduction of hip hop to this rural station.
Shortly after, October 14 marked Dean O Mac's first live performance at The Harb, in Owen Sound, opening for Choclair and Tha Nazdaq. The night was a success - with over 200 loyal supporters, great times were had by all!
Dean has spent the past two years, in collaboration with 13 Canadian artists and musicians, developing his upcoming masterpiece: “Homegrown Heroes" - due to launch in summer 2011.
