It's
difficult to digest, the development of Deadly Hopefuls...
Consisting of former
members of Struck By
Truth, Heroes For Sale, Of The Epic, and Dreamboat; hailing from various
GTA neighbourhoods to forge bold new material in
the furnaces of Hell (a.k.a. Brampton); gestating for over a year;
experimenting with countless musical styles and plenty of potential
members... It wasn't until the final weeks of 2008 that the missing
pieces of the puzzle were found. Even then, with all of the right
elements present, it took another four months for each piece to find its
place.
When
Deadly Hopefuls first took to the stage in March of 2009, the response
was overwhelming. Perhaps it was due to unreasonable hype, memories of
members' past achievements, or just a want of something fresh and new;
regardless of why those fans materialised so immediately and in such great numbers, the
implications were clear.
Over the ensuing ten months, Deadly Hopefuls
worked hard and worked quickly to capitalise on that solid foundation and earn the privilege
of performing with such notable acts as Blackie Jackett Jr., Cavaliers!, Dance
Electric, DD/MM/YYYY, Dinosaur Bones, The North, Pneumatic Transit, The
Sure Things, and many, many more. Each show garnered more support, which
would secure spots at storied venues and institutions, including the
Rock The Coliseum festival, two on-air
interviews
on CIUT 89.5 FM, CBC Radio 3's New Music Canada Playlist, Dave Bookman's Nu
Music Nites at The Legendary Horseshoe
Tavern, and two invitations to play the exclusive and mysterious Soybomb.
Cui Bono, a six-song
EP, was released in September of 2009, and demand warranted a second
printing within weeks of its debut. Not ones to rest on their laurels,
Deadly Hopefuls continued to hone their skills and further develop their
sound. A mere six months after the unveiling of their first CD, the
band released yet another all-new, six-song EP. Drawing from the
eclectic and jangly rock experiments of Cui Bono, this new release
focuses those energies into a more concise and aggressive sound while
still maintaining the unique overtones that set this band apart from
many of their contemporaries. Entitled In Medias Res, this latest effort is a testament of
how amazingly far Deadly Hopefuls have come in just one year, and
ultimately what they're capable of...
