biographical info

Initially a visual and performance artist known in Victoria for his darkly hilarious spoken word monologues, David P. Smith picked up the accordion at the relatively late age of 30. His first band, the Dogbreath Bros., was a hillbilly band with a brash punk attitude, famous for its outlandish stage antics. After their demise, Smith did a year solo before forming two very different combos to record his Hurtin' Dance Party cd. Smith's songwriting is visual and emotive, with unexpected twists of humour. From pretty melancholia (Robot Twin) to frothing-at-the-mouth rawkabilly (Booze Party), Smith and band-mates draw from diverse musical influences with C&W the heart-shaped nugget in the center.
