biographical info
With a winding riff giving way to the Big Star-esque rock of "Backstreets
Thread," The True Love Rules opens
with honesty and attitude. As Marsh recounts times
passed in the halcyon days of the Halifax music scene, the song's discordant
delivery proves the record to be anything but a throw back. From the
melodic sighs of "I Know Nothing Anymore" to the bluesy stomp
of "Move Your Around," the album never stops changing
shape with stylistically diverse songs that are both
optimistic and
reflective.
Produced by Joel Plaskett and Marsh, The True Love
Rules was written and recorded throughout 2007 in
Halifax, Dartmouth and Sydney, Australia. Long time collaborators and
friends contributed to several of the tracks, including guest
appearances led
by Plaskett, The SuperFriendz, Tim Brennan,
Cool Blue Halo’s Paul Boudreau and Peter Elkas.
Dave’s experience with writing and performing spans over twenty years
and half a dozen genres. His musical career has taken him across
Canada, the US, throughout Europe and as far afield as Australia. He
is a founding member of the Joel Plaskett Emergency, with whom he
continues to record and perform.
The True Love Rules is the first release on Joel Plaskett’s
record label, New Scotland Records and will be distributed by Fontana
Music.
