Most people go to Mexico to get a tan. But when Daniel Wright (Music, vocals - Bothell, WA) and Gordon Holmes (Lyrics- Elko, BC) met in the hotel pool, a musical journey began. Along with Rick Howard (drummer, engineer- Pacifica, CA) some fantastic new music has been created by this American/Canadian collaboration.
Grandma’s Box Of Memories won Honorable Mention placement in the Song Of The Year songwriting contest 2012. The 'Honorable Mention' placement shows that your song received extremely high scores and was found to be competitive with the winning songs. Only the top writers receive this placement.
Grandma’s Box Of Memories tells the story of a life filled with laughter, good times, special moments shared with loved ones and of course sadness. In the end all we are left with is a box of belongings , sentimental mementos of someone’s entire existence.
Gordon wrote this song about 6 months before his Grandma passed away. His Grandma played a big part in his life and they shared a special bond of friendship. He told her about the song and hoped that she would be able to hear the finished recording someday, but that never happened. Gordon says his Grandma would have been honored and proud of this musical tribute.
I could relate to the lyrics as my own Grandma had lived in an institution and had alzheimer’s disease before she passed away. They were both great ladies deserving to be remembered in song. I think anyone who has ever lost someone they loved and has had to go through a lifetime worth of belongings will be able to relate to this song.
Daniel has been playing piano since he was 5 years old. Over the years he also learned to play guitar, bass and trombone. He sings with heartfelt emotion emphasized in every song. He has no limits when it comes to music, playing and creating in a variety of different genres including country, acoustic rock, heavy metal, electronic music, classical and jazz.
He has aspirations to share his love of music with children of all ages and has just completed his Masters in Music Education at Holy Names University in California. Daniel lives for playing music with as many people as possible, whenever and wherever he can.
Among his many projects over the years are his own self-titled and self-created electronica albums under the name "Daniel Wright Showcase," a band that he has been in with his sister since he was 15 years old, called the Erika Wright Band, and various side-project rock bands encompassing everything from rock 'n' roll to heavy metal. His evident love of music comes across in everything he puts a chord to.
