biographical info
The entity known as *dyscotopia* has been passively active for 13 years in Vancouver's electronic scene. Starting in the Amiga tracker scene, he was a member of Euphonics, who extended that scene into live performance. Later he worked with DJ Tomasz in the much respected ambient-house project Drop Modulation affiliated with ambient-downtempo pioneers Team Lounge. He has also performed as Math Genius and under his own name, most recently at the 2005 laptop battle at Sonar.
The tracks here continue in an accesibly experimental vein as he crafts music designed to be appreciated both by chinstroking intellectuals, post-rave casualties, and by his mother.
dyscotopia's work is also influenced by his travels in Europe with the SomeOnElse project. After a hiatus to regather his energies and refocus, he is percolating several new projects for release in 2006. He is also interested in extending his output into collaborative work with filmmakers, game designers and other new media artists.
