biographical info
After disbanding his last project, Dr. Yellow Fever, Kamran Abdi took some time off to learn the finer art of production and audio engineering. Equipped with nothing more than a computer, guitar, and a microphone, Abdi teamed up with bassist Chuk Wha? to create his next monster - Dr. dFunkt. As Dr. dFunkt, Abdi has created his finest work and a sonic tour-de-force - Nuerotik.
Based in Halifax, Canada, Dr. dFunkt isn’t concerned with any scenes or trends. “My primary motivation is to develop a unique style, approach, and niche for my music.” The doctor takes the fundamentals of funk and applies outside influences to add depth and universality to a genre that can often sound predictable and cliché. With influences ranging from Prince to N.E.R.D, Dr. dFunkt wants to playa part in the future of pop music.
Together with a flare for performance and a finesse for production, Dr. dFunkt is a self-sufficient artist who is always on the quest to create. “I want to be able to create and perform music with or without any resources or record labels.” With his live band and a video in the makes, look out for Dr. dFunkt as he shakes up 2005!
