biographical info
DITCH was a band centred in the vibrant, early 1990's downtown St. John's music scene. Along with other local bands who were playing various types of music -- grunge, folk, punk and metal -- Ditch provided a special service to live music fans. The band was comprised of Doug "Dino" Mason on Vocals, Bob "The Wizard" Dicks on Guitar, Paul Gruchy on Bass, and Doug Rowe on Drums. Dino and Bob had arisen from the ashes of the defunct rock/punk band Rubber Samuel, and Paul and Doug had emerged from the defunct hardcore/punk band Undermine. Ditch hit the scene in April of 1992 after seeing the need to offer a musical alternative in the local circuit, in part, due to the over-hyped grunge movement that was generally running amok at the time. Ditch often performed at benefit shows for various causes, did radio & 'zine interviews, and received a number of reviews in the press. The pop original 'Autumn Eyes' also found its way onto the first St. John's rock compilation 'Danger Falling Rock' in 1994.
