biographical info
DaZoque! is a butt-kicking, experimental strings & beats ensemble formed by veteran indie violinists Norman Nawrocki (from the legendary Rhythm Activism & Bakunin's Bum - both on G-7 Welcoming Committee Records) & Minda Bernstein from Montreal's premiere klezmer band, the Bagg Street Klezmer Band.
They create original cutting-edge music with an East European flavour that's been called 'neo-classical, post-rock, neo-klezmer & fablesque.'
They've been compared to John Zorn meets Godspeed meets the Kronos Quartet & a drunken, Romanian mountain village band.
Their debut CD has been called 'Fantastic - lovely, soulful playing'(Jowi Taylor, CBC Radio Global Village), 'Delicious, astonishing, audacious'(Montreal's Le Devoir), and 'Beautiful & passionate'(Hour, Montreal).
The band consists of 2 plugged in violins, cello, bass, drums, beats & samples. They played a sold-out indoor show at Montreal's International Jazz Festival in the 'Contemporary Jazz Series.'
