biographical info
Aaron Klingbeil is a multiplicitous individual. Known professionally as Aaron and amongst his friends as ‘Stu’, in his debut EP, The Night of Sevens, he forges his multiple identities into one creative nexus: Curiousface. This moniker — born from a claymation short that Aaron compiled as a teenager — indicates Curiousface’s inquisitive approach to digital music. Citing Radiohead, Fever Ray, and The Postal Service as sources of inspiration, Curiousface reconciles these influences with his own genius in The Night of Sevens.
Originally of Alberta, Canada, Curiousface spends
his days teaching English as a Second Language in Tokyo, Japan. Fueled
by countless cups of coffee and armed with a MicroKorg synthesizer, he
experiments with his music well into the night. For The Night of Sevens,
the multi-talented instrumentalist draws from the Japanese star
festival, Tanabata. Recounting the tale of two lovers in the sky,
Tanabata provides the lyrical thread of the album; itself supplemented
by biblical excerpts. A true example of globalized music, Curiousface collaborated with artist from Japan, the U.S., Canada and Norway for The Night of Sevens. Indeed, it was a family affair, with brother, Cody, recording percussion tracks and aunt, Jeannie, contributing the album art.
While Curiousface does not anticipate touring in the near future, he plans to release a full-length follow-up album in the next year. While Curiousface encourages a donation be made to the Save the Children Foundation, The Night of Sevens can be downloaded for free at www.Curiousface.com
