biographical info
Crouched Head is Joshua Zubot. His debut electronic CD is an entangled mesh of intimate beats, tight arrangements, horn melodies (played by his father), electro-acoustics and free jazz influences. The jangly, outerworld/inner sanctum, space odyssey was created with a laptop, mandolin, piano, korg synth, analog tape, QY70, drum kit, crappy turntables, a mini-disc, accordion, sax & violin. With help from his brother Jesse Zubot (on the production side), he has managed to create an exciting and original piece of work.
Crouched Head was raised on a farm in Saskatchewan. He was surrounded by bird sounds, his mother’s art work, and a brother and father, who are both musicians. As a teenager he studied classical music and played in a punk band. After touring China, Europe and North America with a popular seven piece violin ensemble, he has buried himself in the world of electronic and improvised music.
These days Crouched Head bides his time in Calgary and Montreal. Recently he has done collaborative gigs in Calgary with Venus and Fergus, Masacote Diego Medina, Chad VanGaalen, The Aaron Young Project (Silan and Young), and in Montreal with Lori Freedman, Phillipe Lauzier, Joel Prenovault, and the Bell Orchestre. He also studies composition and electro-acoustics at Concordia in Montreal where he has been involved in a special grant program working under acclaimed composer Tim Brady. Crouched Head has writing credit on the Juno winning Zubot and Dawson album.
