I'm so very pleased to announce that I've been awarded a $2000 grant from Windsor Endowment for the Arts, as the recipient of their Performing Arts Emerging Artist Grant. I'll be putting this much needed funding towards my next record, which I'm hoping to have released by this time next year. This is an honour.

I've begun working on some tunes with Adam Rideout, who'll be producing my next record in the summer. Right now, we're just working on demos to send out with some more grant applications (as there's still quite a bit more funding I'll need to find for my record). Things are sounding good. I've been posting a few photos of the process on Instagram - if you're on there, you can find me under "crissicochrane".

The music video shoot has been postponed to DECEMBER 20TH.

On Tuesday at Phog around 6:00, the leg of the tripod gave out while we were setting up for the first shot for the music video. The camera came crashing down and the lens broke. We thanked everyone for coming, apologized, packed up, had some drinks, and went home. When Sasha got home and looked at the camera, he discovered that it wasn't lens itself was broken - only the UV lens. So relieved that we can avoid the headache of replacing a lens, although bummed to have not been shooting last night. We'll have to fix that troublesome tripod stand before the shoot.

So, now it'll be happening on December 20th (next Tuesday). I'm just looking at this extra week as more time to get ready for the shoot (and spread the word about it). To RSVP, please visit the event on Facebook!

On Tuesday, December 13 (tomorrow!), I'll be shooting a music video for "I Won't Try To Break Your Heart", from my new Pretty Alright EP. The shoot takes place at Phog Lounge in Windsor, ON (157 University Ave W) from 5:00-10:00PM. And we need extras!

All you have to do is hang out, relax, maybe have a beer (like any night at Phog), and maybe let us stick a camera in your face and capture your awesomeness. We're hoping to show off our great and thriving music community by getting as many people involved as possible.

Other than hanging out, I'll be asking folks to help paint the white dress I'll be wearing. Like a big community art project!

I'm pretty excited! But also pretty nervous because I want to do a fair amount of looking nice on camera and I'm not sure how to do that (it never looks like I'm wearing enough make-up). Also, I'm going to be singing into the camera a lot and I'm not sure how to do that without looking stupid/narcissistic. This is partially why I picked a location that serves alcohol.

I regret to announce that I will not be performing the show on November 11 at Jimmy Jazz in Guelph. Mike Hargreaves and I were planning to make the trip up in the Michou van, but it was recently written off in an accident. Nobody was injured, but the insurance hasn't been sorted out yet and we are without a replacement. Super bummed as I was really looking forward to playing Guelph for the first time, but I'll do my best to make it up to you as soon as possible.

Just got back to Windsor after two weeks on tour! Had some fantastic shows - my parents' very successful first house show ever, a great visit to the Red Herring in St. Andrews NB, a packed house at the Mud Creek Grill in Wolfville NS, an interesting line-up with DD/MM/YYYY's last show in Truro NS, followed by a week at the Halifax Pop Explosion, checking out bands and conferences and even hopping on a last-minute show at the Citadel Hotel. Playing with Rich Aucoin at his release show at St. Matthew's Church this week was probably one of the most amazing things I've ever been a part of.

While out east, the guys from ByWordOfMouthMusic.com took the time to shoot a video with me of "Never Will", a song from the EP I'm releasing next month. The video was shot at my friend Ellen's apartment in Halifax.

The EP is coming out next month on November 15th, along with a CD Release Party at the FM Lounge in Windsor on Friday, November 18th (more info to come soon!). If you've pre-ordered Pretty Alright, you should expect your CD to arrive late next week! (If you live outside Canada, it may take a bit longer.) The CDs will be arriving at my apartment from the factory in the next few days, so hopefully they'll be in the mail by the end of the week.

Now that production of my EP is just beginning to wrap up, I'm on to the next thing - playing some shows back home out east! I'll be visiting some of my favorite places in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in October. Come see me, we'll have a drink!

Hooray - finally, I'm recording again! I've been working on tracks for an EP I'm looking to release in the fall. With the exception of one track being recorded with a friend of mine, the EP is going to be recorded the old fashioned, DIY way... in my apartment. It's so comfortable to be the one pressing "record", you know? I've come up with some wild ideas as to how I'm going to raise the money for this venture. Doing it at home by myself will save me some money, but there's still the matter of having the thing printed! I'll be launching some ridiculous money-making schemes in the near future. This past weekend, my parents came to visit me for the first time at my new home in Windsor, Ontario. We made a trip to Lansing, Michigan on Saturday to stop into Elderly Instruments, and came home with a beautiful new Martin 000-15M! Can't wait to start playing some shows with this baby. It's been seven years since I bought my Yamaha, so I think I was overdue for an upgrade.

Super excited to announce that I'll be playing with Haligonian Rebekah Higgs here in Windsor! Rebekah makes incredibly beautiful, ethereal music - haunting and lovely, and often stuck in my head.

The show begins at 9pm, admission is $5, crowd is 19+. We'll both have merch available. There should be one other opener, yet to be announced!

As a long-time fan of Attack in Black, I'm excited to announce that I'll be performing with Spencer Burton of AIB when he brings his solo side-project Grey Kingdom to the Phog Lounge next Thursday, April 21st! In March, I bribed the internet with cupcakes and a free show if folks voted for me in CJAM FM (Windsor/Detroit campus radio station)'s annual Jammy Awards. And it worked - I got the award for "Best Local Musician"! Hooray! I've not really won anything before, so I'm already making a big deal about this in my head. They gave me a trophy (I used to work at a trophy shop and this is STILL the first trophy I've ever owned in my whole life). My trophy is sitting on the top of a bookshelf, looking all nice and regal and awesome. So tomorrow (Sunday, April 3rd), I'm doing a free show at the Milk Coffee bar here in Windsor. There will be four dozen cupcakes for free (which means you can guess what I'll be doing all afternoon tomorroww...!). My man Mike Hargreaves will be performing also, which I am pretty excited about it. And, it's my birthday in a few days! I turn 22 on April 6th, so I'm sort of counting this as a birthday party for myself except it involves me making lots of cake myself and then resisting the urge to eat any of it. (I know how to part hard, right?) Also I should add that my album is now available on iTunes! I put it up online myself through TuneCore.com (so helpful). I screwed it up the first time really bad and uploaded an early mix of one of the songs. Woops! Typical me. I fixed it though. I hate Myspace: now, visitors can only check out a few tunes before they must log in or sign up to hear the rest. If they do neither, they can only hear 30 second previews of your songs. Lame! Awful! And they snuck that change in there so subtly that I didn't even notice until my parents complained about it to me.

So, I'll be directing people to my CBC Radio 3 page much more. Become my fan and I will love you forever! And ever!

Thanks a million to Grant Lawrence for putting "Coming Home" in the R3 podcast last week. I had to do a happy dance in the kitchen when I was listening along while cooking dinner and heard the song come on. Yay!

CBC Radio 3 has been my new home for finding new music while I work! I love the artists, the hosts, it's all awesome. So wonderful.

So to display my love of CBC Radio 3, I've uploaded three more tracks from my album - Separate Cities (I think this one has become one of my favorites from the album - the instrumentation is so simple, it makes the intimacy of it really intense), Coming Home (people often tell me they like that song best, although for some reason I've stopped gravitating towards it as much?), and Elevators (probably the craziest, most experimental, "out-there" piece I ever have and probably ever will make).

I'm leaving Nova Scotia! I'ved lived here my whole life. I've been in Halifax the past three years, and now I'm off to Windsor, ON to make a new home.

The target for manufacturing for my upcoming album "Darling, Darling" has not only been reached, but surpassed! Over $1870 has been raised (the target was $1700), and 106 copies of the album were sold. The record goes into production at the manufacturing company tomorrow.

I never really thought I'd make it to my goal! To have so many people willing to put down their money just on the promise of a record, something that didn't even exist yet, is absolutely incredible, and so very humbling for me.

Last weekend, my friend Julien and I stayed after close at the Clay Cafe where I work, and shot this video of a live ukulele rendition of my song Lonely For Me from my upcoming record "Darling, Darling". Halifax's young folk/pop songstress Crissi Cochrane releases "Kinda Late" from her new album "Darling Darling" for free download online, and officially launches her pre-order for the album this week! 

Recorded in Chicago in December of 2009 at Soma Studios (www.somastudios.com) and mastered by Bob Weston of the Chicago Mastering Service, the album features full arrangements, including a string quartet arranged by Raphael Roter (and performed by Drew Jurecka and Amy Laing at the Canterbury Music Company in Toronto), and drums by Mike Kinsella (of solo project Owen). 

"I feel like listeners can really expect a much fuller sound," says Crissi about the record in a video interview released this week. "With both of my last releases, the style and even my voice and how I sing is so completely different. So, on this it feels so much more polished and true and honest."

For $20, fans will receive their own copy of the album (with free shipping or delivery within Halifax included), and their name printed in the liner notes for their contribution. Payments are accepted online with credit card and PayPal (or cheques can be mailed to Crissi Cochrane/16 Sequoia Drive/Hanwell, NB/E3C 1M7). The album is anticipated for release in August 2010.

I finished a new song this Thursday and I want to share it with you! So I took a little video of it with my laptop and now it's up online for you to see. It's a song called Fine. (And it's the first one I've ever written in a different tuning, exciting!)

 

I got to spend this past weekend in Sydney, Cape Breton, playing some no-cases during the ECMAs. Awesome.

Born in the Annapolis Valley, 20-year-old singer/songwriter Crissi Cochrane has been capturing the hearts of listeners around the maritimes and the world with her gentle, soothing blend of folk and pop. Now a resident of Halifax, her song "Coming Home" is a tribute to her home town, pointing out the landmarks where cherished (and sometimes not-so-cherished) memories were made. Today, the music video for Coming Home is officially online! Shot at the Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth by Charlie Mac Productions (www.charliemacproductions.com) in August of 2009, the video combines photographs of the Valley with beautiful performance sequences (complete with a lovely dress and a microphone straight out of the fifties).

Exciting!

Last month, I went down to Chicago to record my new album at Soma EMS (www.somastudios.com) along with engineer Tim Iseler. Owen (Mike Kinsella - www.myspace.com/mybandowen) stopped in to do some guitar and drum tracks too! All in all it was a great time. Also, you might have noticed if you had my music in any playlists, that I took down all the old songs! I've put up two tracks - a pretty simplistic recording of Kinda Late (engineered by Andrew Wiseman), and a version of Coming Home that I recorded this past summer at Heartstring Productions for a music video. The video is still in the editing process, but it should be out sometime in the spring (I think!).

So, the string parts for the album are done! They were recorded in Toronto at the Canterbury Music Company (www.canterburymusic.ca) by Drew Jurecka and Amy Laing. Arranger Raphael Roter also played some accordion on there! I'll be hearing the string parts tomorrow hopefully. Then they're back to Chicago for some more mixing, and then off to mastering! So hopefully the album will be out in the spring sometime (I'm thinking of maybe releasing it on my birthday for extra fun, but we'll see how that goes).

Hey guys!

 I've been working on some new recordings with my friend John Fulmer to re-do So Far Apart, Coming Home, and Mexico. I noticed some of you have these tunes saved in playlists, and I didn't want to cut them out so I've simply replaced the files! Hope you weren't too surprised to hear a completely different track :)

 Anyway, hope you enjoy. Please let me know your thoughts. I'll be playing this Saturday, April 25th at the Carleton for Kev Corbett's "Sing For Your Supper" songwriter's circle at 2:00PM, so feel free to come out.

 And, the BIGGEST SHOW OF MY LIFE will be taking place on May 8th at St. Matthew's Church on Barrington Street. Owen (Mike Kinsella of American Football) will be performing, along with Halifax's Ghost Bees. Doors open at 6:30PM. Hey folks!

 Glad you've found me here. Thanks for checking me out. I usually work mostly from myspace.com/saveseptember, but after I got played a couple times on CBC radio 2, I figured I'd give this one a shot too!

So incase you don't know me, my name is Crissi Cochrane, I perform as Save September in and around the Halifax area, which I've been doing for about two years now. I'm nineteen now, attending NSCC for Music Business, and have an EP (sold about 500 copies), a week of touring to Toronto and back, and several festivals under my belt. I love performing and meeting new people.
