biographical info
"EXPEDITION" is the long, long anticipated debut LP by Clayton Healey. The album is produced by Michael McKyes and adorned with singers such as Tara Holloway, Sarah Smith (The Joys), NLX and Amanda Rheaume. Featuring a cover of Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer" and John Prine's "Angel from Montgomery."
"I don't think there was any particular event that got me into songwriting. I do remember taking over my brother's guitar when I was 11 after he lost interest in learning how to play. This was around the time of Peter, Paul & Mary coming onto the scene and with them Bob Dylan & Gordon Lightfoot. I guess I became a product of the times as these were the heady days of folk music and the protest song."
Clayton was born in Hamilton, Ontario. In the 1960's he started sailing the Great Lakes on freighters, eventually being promoted to first mate. But after 30 years he was found to be unfit for service due to mental illness. In 1999 he graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. in cross-disciplinary studies. After starting several health related companies, he soon became disillusioned with business. And he began focusing again on his music. "I found that by getting back into songwriting my disappointments were reduced and I was able to express my feelings in a more disciplined way."
