biographical info
Rock n' Roll the way it should be. Grooving riffs, driving bass, soulful
vocals. Choice Grade is the rock band of the future, with a decidedly
classic sound. Deeply influenced by the 60s as well as many of the
modern rock acts, Choice Grade is the band you've been waiting for.
A 5-piece Rock n' Roll band from Ottawa, Choice Grade is tremendously
sexy. Having been together for just over a year, the band really came
together with a simple cover of 'Day Tripper' that just would not end.
If Deep Purple and The Kings of Leon had a kid. And The Beatles and
Joel Plaskett had a kid. Then, by some divine miracle, those two kids
met and fell in love, and their child was punched in the face by Noel
Gallagher, the godly offspring produced would be the vibrant sounds that
emanate from the amps, mics, drums, vocal chords, and flutes from a
little basement in Ottawa.
The summer of 2010 was a busy time for the band. Kicking off the summer months by playing at the reknowned music festival Westfest, where they shared the stage with Sloan and many others. Relentless practicing throughout the summer lead Choice Grade through several shows around Ottawa and eventually to the recording studio in early August.
In a cozy basement studio in downtown Ottawa Choice Grade spent two weeks recording their debut EP 'It's A Lifestyle". The 6 song EP features all original material that the band has compiled over the past few years of playing together. The albums release was marked by a sold out show at Club Saw in Ottawa, seeing close to 200 albums sold in the first night.
In years past, the band has played at many venues across the Ottawa area, including Westfest, Capital Music Hall, Club Saw, the late New Bayou, as well as many others. Their play has warranted a seceltion as the grand prize winner of a 'rockstar' contest run by the
good people at Energizer and Xbox in 2009. They were selected by a panel of
judges as the best band to be voted into the top ten from a cross
country pool of thousands of bands.
The band is now full steam ahead into practicing and writting to prepare for more shows in 2011.
Choice Grade eats, sleeps, breathes music and will continue to
play hard for anyone who will listen. With any luck the band's hard work will translate into some real success going forward.
But in the wise words of Sir Mick Jagger, 'you can't always get what
you want.' Choice Grade is going to keep trying to make sure they get
what they need. Rock n' Roll.
