biographical info
The Cashmere Disciples
formed in Charlottetown, PEI, in 2004 when songwriter Drew Heggie
gathered some friends together to play his songs, and they recorded their first
CD, a collection of six tunes called “We Rode Off”, in 2006.
After several years of
playing shows around the Maritimes, a few summers off, and more changes than
you can shake a stick at, the now band boasts a solid new line-up and a new
sound.
The Cashmere Disciples are Drew Heggie (acoustic and electric
guitars, harmonica, lead vocals), Phil White (lead guitar), Joel Walker
(drums), Berne Driscoll (keys), and Drea Macdonald (bass, vocals). They define
their sound as “Roots Rock” – a combination of acoustic folk music, country
rhythms, 70’s rock organ sounds and soaring guitar solos. Comparisons could be
made to bands such as The Band, Gram Parsons, Counting Crows, Ryan Adams and
southern guitar rockers The Drive By Truckers.
They’re newest release, and first full-length recording, “In With The
Old”, was recorded in July, 2009, in a barn in rural Prince Edward Island and
was engineered, produced and mixed by Adam Gallant. The final product is a
collection of ten songs that capture the band’s energetic live performance.
