biographical info

The Cardboard Satellites are an alternative rock quartet hailing from Elgin Park Secondary. The band formed in 2006 as the brother duo of Adam and Steven Clarke. As a duo, they performed throughout the Vancouver area in open mic nights and weddings. In August of 2009, they competed in the White Rock Blues Society Talent Search. While they did not win that competition, they were described by judge and WRBS Artistic Director Jason Buie as “really cool.” This competition served as an important experience for the band.  Then in the fall of 2009, the Satellites welcomed Geoff McClennan and Patrick Rendell to the fold.

Three of the present members, Steve, Patrick and Geoff, were members of the band program at Elgin since grade eight. After playing as members of much larger ensembles, they realised it was time to branch off on their own. Steven suggested that Patrick and Geoff join the Cardboard Satellites, and at the beginning of this school year, the duo became a four piece.

As a quartet, the band has continued to develop their sound into a finely honed blast of sonic power. They are currently in the process of writing and recording their first release, The Cardboard Satellites, scheduled to be completed by November. Eventually, the band hopes to make it in the music industry. The band’s influences include Eric Clapton, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails, and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

While The Cardboard Satellites share musical duties within the group, each member has an instrument that they specialize in. Adam plays second guitar and vocals, Patrick rocks the bass, Geoff holds down the rhythm as drummer, and Steven rounds out the sound with lead guitar. All members contribute to the writing of the music and lyrics. Adam is the oldest member of the band at eighteen years old. After graduating from Elgin, he is currently in his second year of studies at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Steve, Patrick and Geoff are all seventeen, and currently in Grade 12.
