biographical info

Cadence Weapon continues to firmly establish his legacy as a sonic pioneer while constantly pushing the rap and electronic music envelope. Following his critically-acclaimed, Polaris Music Prize nominated albums Breaking Kayfabe and Afterparty Babies and a two year term as Edmonton’s Poet Laureate, he returns with his new album Hope In Dirt City this Spring. A clearly defined and emotionally mature statement of intent, Hope In Dirt City represents the culmination of these experiences. Composed of a unique hybrid of psychedelic soul, old school rap, IDM and mutant disco, Hope In Dirt City is a groundbreaking achievement in hip-hop. Cadence Weapon has returned to bring rap back to its essence.

Hope In Dirt City Shortlisted for Polaris Music Prize!

posted by Upper Class

Cadence Weapon Hope In Dirt City honoured on the Polaris Music Prize Shortlist

The 2012 Polaris Short List was announced yesterday (July 17) at The Drake Hotel in Toronto, ON.

Polaris Founder and Executive Director Steve Jordan was pretty excited about the List.

"Our jury is showing an ever growing passion and dedication to reviewing, discussing and advocating their selections. This has resulted in a Short List of records that are musically focused, intense and in some cases highly personal. The process of selecting a winner should prove to be an invigorating challenge for our Grand Jury."

The 200+ writers, editors, producers and media figures who make up the Polaris Music Prize jury pool chose the Short List by submitting ballots listing their Top 5 albums from the previously announced Long List of 40 eligible albums.

It's on to the big show, the Polaris Gala, being held in Toronto on September 24, where a Grand Jury made up of 11 Polaris jurors will be sequestered Papal conclave-style until they decide which one of the 10 Short List albums will be declared the best Canadian album of 2012.

The full Gala event, including live performances from a number of the artists, will be webcast at MuchMusic.com. Additionally, a one-hour Gala highlight show will be broadcast on Much Sept. 29 at 10 p.m.
