Comeback Kid formed with one simple purpose in mind: to get out and play some fast, furious hardcore. Two critically acclaimed albums later and after tirelessly touring in the UK, Europe, Canada, USA, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Iceland with bands such as Rise Against, Sick Of It All, Madball, Bad Religion, Dropkick Murphys, Gorilla Biscuits, Terror, and Bane, Comeback Kid have become one of the biggest names in hardcore today.
Now, two years since the release of Wake the Dead (Victory / Smallman), Comeback Kid unleashes Broadcasting...their most diverse album yet. Recorded again with pop-punk legend Bill Stevenson at The Blasting Room, the album encompasses both heavier and more melodic elements. Lead singer Andrew Neufeld explains, "We wanted to up the ante with this one. Mix it up a little bit more. I think that with music it's great to explore new things and push the envelope a bit."
The result is a superbly crafted, hard-hitting tour de force. Described by Neufeld, "This is definitely the darkest record we have ever written. We were going for more of an epic, full sounding album. It still has the classic CBK elements but everything is turned up a notch." Listen to the album and you will see that this is a modest understatement.
The album also shows maturity in lyrical content. The title track "Broadcasting..." addresses the fear instilled in our society towards those deemed the enemy. "There are figures in the public eye that are portrayed as dangerous and we are told they are the enemy. I think a lot of the time the real enemy is in our own backyard, trying to scare us into believing whatever they tell us. There is danger all around us, but not always where we're told it is," explains Neufeld.
update Dec '07: "Kevin Call, bassist for Canadian hardcore group Comeback Kid, has announced he will soon amicably part ways with the band. Three farewell shows have been scheduled in honour of Call's departure: Dec 14 in Winnipeg, MB, December15 in Alexandria, MN and December 16 in Minneapolis, MN.
The following statement is taken from a blog posted by Call on the Comeback Kid myspace November 20th.
"Life has called on me to go in a different direction - one that no longer involves playing bass guitar in Comeback Kid. These past few years with this band have been the best years of my life. I've seen some amazing places, made some amazing friendships all over the world, and have grown so much as a result of playing in this band."
