biographical info
For over two years, the Vancouver based group, Candelaria, has been crowding dance floors with its own unique fusion of cumbia, soca, funk and pop. Candelaria first began appearing on the club scene as a trio, consisting of Colombian born guitarist William Benavides, his brother Miguel on percussion and Canadian born bassist Russell Sholberg. Using different and exotic Latin rhythms, the trio developed a rich repertoire of original music. With the recent addition of Alison Jenkins on accordion and clarinet the group's sound became complete.
Candelaria is a high-energy band that thrives in live performances. Often dancers will inspire the group to spin off into extended versions of their songs.
