Brenda MacIntyre is known as Medicine Song Woman and her latest music is filled with reasons why. Haunting Aboriginal chants, uplifting lyrics and soulful Roots & Blues with World percussion will put a smile on your face. It was a pleasure to work with Brenda. As the lead-off performer for our music festival, we couldn’t have asked for more. Her singing, drumming, and inspiring words really set the mood for a very enjoyable weekend.”

-- Clayton Brander, Artistic Director, Sunshine Music Festival 2007 (British Columbia)

MacIntyre’s career began in 1985 when she moved to Toronto after both her parents had died. As a result of determination and a life-long passion for singing, her first hit single (“Non Stopping Hip Hopping,” Moods International Records, Florida) was charted as a “hot new item” on North Miami’s Top 40 station WPOW 96FM.

Brenda MacIntyre’s second single “Rock a Talk” was featured on “The Gathering” compilation released by Attic Records at the Opera House. In 1992, the CD won a Juno Award and MacIntyre earned a Canadian Reggae Music Award nomination.

The single mother traveled a road of abuse and hardship until she began her healing journey at an Aboriginal women’s healing lodge. She became a full-time recording artist in 2001 and led Spirit Wind Aboriginal Women’s Hand Drum to success with a Canadian Independent Music Award nomination and debuts at #1 in World/Folk on New Brunswick’s CFMH Radio, and #5 on CFBX Radio in Kamloops, BC.

Brenda has performed and presented at a diversity of venues, such as California State University, Canadian Music Week, the Niagara Folk Arts Festival, the Canadian Aboriginal Festival and the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival.
