biographical info

Brad is a multi-instrumentalist who performs as a woodwind specialist in groups ranging from jazz bands and classical chamber ensembles, to concert bands and orchestras. He is also dedicated to performing the traditional music of his Cape Breton roots on the fiddle and bagpipes, and is often called upon as a side musician with singer/songwriters on instruments such as guitar, piano, or double bass.

Since completing the music program at St Francis Xavier  University, Brad spent seven years working as a musician aboard luxury cruise ships, and was promoted to the rank of Bandmaster (musical director). While at sea, Brad had the opportunity to perform with such acts as  Joel Mason and his touring Elton John tribute show, Johnny Thunder (formerly of the Drifters), Eddie Holman (“Hey there Lonely Girl”), and Australia’s Michael “Banjo” Young. Back home in Nova Scotia, he has performed with local country artist Rylee Madison, and Halifax honkytonk hero Ryan Cook.  Also in the Maritimes, Brad frequently works on productions with Live Bait Theatre in Sackville, New Brunswick (including one as musical director).

In the Halifax area, Brad  is a performing member (and serves on the board of directors) with the Sackville Community Band,  performing on clarinet, saxophone and bagpipes.

Brad teaches lessons privately, and through the Long & McQuade Music Education Center, as well as conducting woodwind sectionals and workshops within local school bands.

In 2008 Brad recorded his first traditional Cape Breton fiddle album, “The Conundrum",  playing both fiddle and  guitar. Originally inspired by the violin playing of his late grandfather (from Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island) Brad maintains his connection to this traditional music by performing as a member  of  the  Cape Breton Fiddlers' Association, and at their annual festival in St. Anne's, Cape Breton Island, which he first attended with his grandfather in 1995.
