biographical info
Haling from East Vancouver, BC, Birdapres (kind of pronounced like Bird - of - prey but with a French twist) has long been one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. A brilliant lyricist and rhymer, he is a rapper's rapper, equally adept at freestyle and the written verse.
Growing up between Vancouver and Victoria, Birdapres evolved from a trouble-making youth to a full time hip-hop fan and participant. Having gone to school with other Canadian notables such as Prevail (Swollen Members), Moka Only and Nelly Furtado, his interest in the music scene was spawned early on. In the mid 90's he released a couple of 12" singles as Birdapres and RKV. He then took time to record with Moka Only, City Planners, Styles Of Beyond and the pop group Len. He recorded several independent releases in the late 90's, then hooked up with Halifax producer DJ Moves to record "Alleged Legends", his first release on Peanuts & Corn Records.
After the release of Alleged Legends, Bird's relationship with Peanuts & Corn producer / owner mcenroe grew, spawning guest spots on albums by mcenroe, John Smith and the Hip-Hop Wieners.
In 2003, mcenroe approached Bird about teaming up as a duo and releasing an album, which became 2004's mcenroe and Birdapres - Nothing Is Cool. This recording was one of the most popular and best selling releases for Peanuts & Corn, garnering rave reviews and selling very well in Canada. Birdapres first solo album in six years, is scheduled to be released on P&C in 2006.
