It was the middle of nowhere. Faint sounds of singing with guitar moved in and out with the breeze through the forest. The rest of the construction camp had finished with the cook’s dinner offering, while I was crossing the highway towards the music. Barry was a lineman for CN Rail. His job was to handcart a 100 miles or so up and down the track, clearing obstructions on the Yellowhead Pass. His cabin was just big enough to hold a single bed, hot plate, a wood stove and maybe 3 or 4 of us each night. I was so smitten, that after a week, I foolishly gave him $400 of hard earned tuition money to buy me a guitar on his upcoming trip to Edmonton. He was overdue several days, but he came back with an Epiphone acoustic. Barry taught me how to hit the thing. “It’s a drum”.
That all seems like many lifetimes ago. Haven’t been able to put the thing down ever since. I like to rock but being a new age sensitive guy (yeah right) I like the slow stuff, and it does help in the marriage department. Hope you like the music. Ken
