biographical info

Ben Sures is a great Canadian roots/pop singer songwriter .He is the Lennon Award winner in the folk category of the 2005 John Lennon songwriting competition and second place winner in the 2006 AAA category of The International songwriting competition. Live, Ben performs with his fabulous bass player/back up vocalist Shantel Koening. Gigs of note include 8 appearances at The Winnipeg Folk Festival, Calgary, Edmonton and Brandon Folk Festivals, opened fro Ray Davies of The Kins and The Preservation Hall band. The live show is a mixture of contemporary folk/pop and roots music originals delivered by two very talented musicians. Ben's voice has been compared to Paul Simon, his songwriting has been compared to Sarah Harmer and Greg Brown. Raised on the prairies of Western Canada, Ben started playing guitar in High school and immediately began writing songs, since that time he has penned over 300 tunes. He has played and toured with numerous bands playing their music and his own. He has been featured numerous times over the last decade on Canada's National broadcaster "The CBC" and has toured festivals, living rooms and small concert venues from Halifax to Victoria and as far north as Whitehorse and Churchill, Manitoba. Though largely unnoticed by the music industry he has many devoted fans and has been able to survive doing what he loves to do, sing and play what he writes. Always worth catching! Ben has four cds available through his website www.bensures.com he also appears on numerous compilations.

I have a new album!!!

posted by Ben Sures

I just received the master for my new recording 'Gone to Bolivia' I am stoked, excited, happy about this album.it features some of my favourite singers on it two of the Good Lovelies Caroline Brooks and Kerri Ough, Rhonda Stakich who is Canada's answer to Melody Gardot and beyond. Kathryn Rose, the lovelest Momma and most diverse beautiful sultry voice. Oh yeah and Michele Rumball, do you remember Michelle? She was in The Grievious Angels, when I think of that era of iconic Canadian Voices that was Jane Sibery, Mary Margaret O'hara et al.  I include Michelle in that group.

The Drummer and Cellist for the album wa also the producer, his name is Don Kerr and he is a gifted musician, arranger, thinker, Dad and Sprout Grower. He is best known for playing drums with Ron Sexsmith and The Rheostatics. Michael Holt played Piano, Brian Kpbayakawa of Creakng Tree and Elvs Bossa NOva played killer electric and upright bass. im Bovaconti from ROn's band played steel and I played a lot f guitar and sang and wrote all but one song which is a cover by Mose Allison called Everybody's Cryin Mercy. The album is full of meaty content drive hummable songs, if you are a lyric person who likes Leonard Cohen, Feist Neil Young etc. This album will add to your collection.
