biographical info
Beavers Are Pussies are a punk band from Southwestern Ontario who plan to exist only as a fun flash in the dustpan of toque-tied Canadiana. Back in November 2011, the three members of the band (musician & poet Andy McGuire, neuroscientist Bruce Bobier, and audio engineer Rob McKercher) got together at a studio near Goderich, ON, and in a single weekend recorded the one and only record Beavers Are Pussies will ever release.
Greatest Hits is a twelve-song compendium of Canadianisms, conceits, and cliches, all having been sent through the surprise machine of songwriter Andy McGuire's typically off-kilter imagination. From Cult of Canada (a break-up with one's nation state song) to Elliott Smith For Prime Minister (a call for the dead American singer-songwriter to take the reins in Ottawa), I Wish Roberta Bondar Was My Mom (a song about childhood reimagined as the son of Canadian astronaut Roberta Bondar), and Anna (a song about an elderly, reclusive Anna Maria Tremante who is reassured about life, love, and letters as she nears her deathbed), Greatest Hits has no shortage of delightfully fun and charming curveballs.
Oh, Canada, you've got us all wrong. All the moose are tired of photo shoots and the geese have up and gone. We love you, but we can tell your sights are squarely set on someone else.
