biographical info
Brent Randall and his Pinecones are an exciting and interesting pop-group from city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Songwriter, Brent Randall, conjures up fantastical musical fairy rhymes and nursery tales for the indie set. Wistful crooning, backward ballads to magical fairground romps. The Pinecones, his nimble and noble cast of cabaret cowboys and bubblegum dandies, aim to please..and please you, they will!
In 2004, they released their debut recording "Quite Precisely, Brent Randall and his Pinecones." as the first release on the Halifax-based artist collective Just Friends Records. The release attracted critical aclaim and charted on campus stations across the country. Brent Randall and his Pinecones are busy working on their full length follow-up due out spring 2007, to be produced by the Heavy Blinker's Jason MacIssac and featuring string and horn arrangements by David Christensen.
"Brent brews together elements of Van Dyke Parks, Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman into a type of music that Alice might have heard down the rabbit hole."
" It's got an almost cabaret feel, with a taste of Paul McCartney, a sip of Brian Wilson, and a Hermann Hesse backdrop." -Rhiannon Thomas, The Current, St. John's
"Randall mixes cryptic nostalgia with a melodic sense that recalls old Randy Newman and Harry Nilsson Records (it)..also references the harmonic complexity of the Beach Boys and the British music hall whimsy of the Kinks." -Stephen Cooke, The Chronicle-Herald, Halifax.
