biographical info
The Ben Thompson Band is comprised of Mike Tracy on bass, Ed Conley on drums and Ben Thompson on vocals and guitar. As chief songwriter, Thompson muses about his thoughts on being a road band.
“We’re touring for most days of the year, trying to make it in a business that’s difficult to understand. We write songs that we are passionate about and try to fashion them into a style that I think would appeal to the masses. But what do I know; I’m only a musician.”
Ben Thompson and his band spent a couple years working with local producers and managers before they decided to make the move to full time band. Now they have a 12-seat bus converted to house 3 bunks and an entertainment center, two national tours under their belt, and a team of committed people behind them.
They submitted their demo to the newly christened Spring Music Festival where they caught the attention of the festival’s organizer. Shortly after, a deal was signed to a small Canadian development label, Tin House Records.
The band recorded 10 songs and then released a self-titled CD over the winter of ‘03/04, where they had to turn away more than 100 people at the 300-capacity venue. Within weeks the band was showcasing at Canadian Music Week.
The band has begun another tour which sees them make their way from Toronto to Vancouver and then return for a showcase at the Spring Music Festival, followed by an industry showcase.
