biographical info
Automata started as a one man band. My name is Tomas de-Camino-Beck, and I play Dobro and Guitar. I record in my small basement studio using GarageBand, and program drums and play synth. About 2 years ago, I decided to pick up a resonator guitar after hearing Chris Whitley break the common notion of the resonator. I went and bought a Gibson Hound Dog Dobro. I haven't touched my Les Paul since then. Later I heard Jeff Lang, and realized there is a whole new world when you play with tunings. Anyway, I try to bring some blues into my tunes. I'm not a blues singer, so i tried to adapt a blues-like style to my limited vocal abilities. I hope its working. IN any case I'm having fun with it. The first three tunes are a sample of my home recordings. The fourth tune is a bit more of an experimental song, I have a home-made album in that style. You see I have a thing for analog synths as much as for Resonator. Now, I have a full band. Acoustic bass, drums and piano. we are planning to start GIGing pretty soon...
