biographical info
The Aulos Trio was formed in Ottawa in 1991.
Made up of Nancy Maloney (flute), Timothy Maloney (clarinet) and Dina Namer (piano), the trio performs music by Canadian composers Elliot Weisgarber, Wolfgang Bottenberg, Clifford Crawley, Harry Freedman, Violet Archer, Calixa Lavalée and others.
The group's name comes from the ancient Greek instrument which had two pipes played by a single musician.
In the Aulos Trio, the two pipes are the flute and clarinet, accompanied by piano or harpsichord, depending on the works being performed.
The Aulos Trio's repertoire comprises 19th and 20th century music that is written specifically for this combination of instruments, as well as chamber and orchestral music that features flute and clarinet.
