Arraymusic has existed for 39 years to foster, present and promote newly created Canadian music within an international and historical new music context. Array serves the vitally important role of lending support to composers and musicians – commissioning, performing, touring, recording and bringing their work to new audiences. Array embraces the new techniques, technologies and perspectives that nourish the musical imagination and provides an environment in which participating artists are free to take risks and push the boundaries of musical expression.
The Array Ensemble is Arraymusic’s principal program, a chamber group that draws primarily on the orchestral families of instruments, but includes instruments from other traditions and new media. Each season, Arraymusic presents its ensemble, along with guest artists, in an annual season of concerts based in Toronto.
Arraymusic approaches all this work with a fierce spirit of exploration and profound respect for the accomplishments of our great contemporary composers, along with an abiding appreciation for the art of sound and critical openness to the intellectual and aesthetic concepts and technologies that have been instrumental in shaping the culture of our age.
Arraymusic maintains a unique rehearsal facility in Toronto’s Liberty Village, which it rents to artists all year long at affordable rates.
