the road again? whats this now?
the road again? whats this now? some shows i guess, guelph the hammer kingston ottawa, hardly could be a called a "a tour" - esp after the last one, which ended two weeks ago.
aoh opened up for do make say think, 24 shows in 25 days, we hit a few canadian cities, not enuf. you know the do makes: the ethereal & the relentless, the intricate & the pummeling, ha! the drinking & the deafening. that crew saved my life last year around this time and it was a real pleasure to somehow repay them. i dunno if theyd consider having me dean and julian on their bus with them and us drinking their red wine and generally upping the alcohol content of their rider 'repayment', but we certainly gave'er every night and thats how it works sometimes. nothing but soul exchange. germ swapping.
it was like hanging out in the back of the bada bing (except for julie and j-9). maybe its a reach from sopranos to the tour but: the same twin themes of death and desire are what i picked up."A With Living", "Naked & Alone", "Horns of a Rabbit", "¡Rafaga!" were all standouts and they all explore those shadowy spaces. more parallels - the soldier mentality (a new battle song was written about EZ-E), a strict 'no divas on the bus' policy, a serious concern with our abilities to earn. fck knows, this is not security blanket kinda work. its an oath, albeit one you Can choose to break if you want, but 'the life' is really what it is - an all encompassing situation that puts having a normal life six feet under. as justin small might say, "who the fuck wants that anyway?"
this next little run we're about to do is with my friend todor's band, major maker. some heavy hitters there apparently, besides the tall man himself - songwriter lindy & i heard ian lefevre is playing guitar. not to mention our dean is playing drums for them. two sets per night, eh dean? not that i have any doubts about his endurance or focus - its just that, well, marty kinack is back doing sound for aoh & of course we know how drunk that means. and then the euchre. montreal julian brown is probably chomping at the proverbial bauer. ( we didnt make quite the dent we were hoping to on the do makes bus...). and of course if i decide to spice things up further by insisting we play medleys of our tunes, at twice the normal speed & twice the normal volume and then fine anyone if they miss my incoherent cues ala james brown r.i.p., this could end up being an interesting week. for dean.
