biographical info
Slowly rising from the barren wasteland that is Stouffville, Ontario,
AWM has now found what we were looking for since the beginning- the
perfect combination of thrash and power metal. But the road to this
sound and the lineup that provides it was a long one. The group first
started as Anarchy Within Mythology, a series of videos helmed by lead
guitarist/songwriter Andrew Jarvis and featured many of his friends.
These videos featured stunts, skateboarding, pranks and skits. In
Winter of 2005 the project became musical, comprised of high school
friends. The music was straightforward, but there was passion, hard
work and a good live show. This is evident in the 2 first place awards
at local Battle of the Bands competitions and and advancement to the
Semi-Finals of "Bands on the Run" in Toronto. Not long after this, Dan
Nielsen took over on lead vocals, giving the music the 4 octave vocal
range it needed. Having worked the professional band circuit in
Thunderbay, Ontario before relocating to the Stouffville area in the
years previous, he brought new talent and professionalism to the group.
Soon after this however, things started to slow down as internal
conflicts and a desire to play more dynamic and technical music meant
it was time for a new lineup. While Andrew and Dan remained, drummer
Ale Gonzalez and bassist Jon Stallan were brought into the band. After
learning songs both old and new and establishing a great work and
personal relationship (with plenty of alcohol fueling both), we set out
to make our first EP- Handling the Blade. Self recorded and produced,
the demo featured 5 songs from both eras of the band (It has since been
re-recorded, re-mastered, and re-released, and sounds fu***** epic!).
Not long after it was released it came time for a name change. During a
night of heavy drinking, Ale suggested Answer With Metal. It was
decided immediately. This would be our calling card. Our oath of Heavy
Metal and all that it stands for. Since then, Matt Hadaway has been
brought in as a rhythm guitarist and over 10 new songs have been
written. We are now in the planning process of recording a 3 song promo
CD to be shipped out to record labels. AWM is determined to bring back
the sound of old school metal. With time, money, booze,
and a bit of luck, we will show the world that we mean it when we say
"Answer With Metal!"
